Next month, I’ll be heading to Busan to attend the Asia Digital Broadcasting Academy—and I’m really looking forward to learning more about short-form vertical (숏폼) content and how it’s evolving across Asia. While it’s not the format I usually gravitate toward, I’m excited to explore how it might open up new ways for creators to share global stories. I’ll be bringing these insights back to Upstage as we continue to support innovative, independent voices.
We’re thrilled to announce that Upstage Entertainment is now a signatory of the Writers Guild of America (WGA).
This means we are fully committed to upholding the WGA’s standards for fair pay, creative rights, and professional working conditions for writers. As a signatory company, we are able to hire and collaborate directly with WGA-affiliated writers, ensuring that our projects meet the highest industry standards and support union talent.
This is a major step in our mission to champion exceptional storytelling while standing in solidarity with the creative workforce that powers this industry.
Curious about the surge in non-union, vertical short-form casting calls? Discover why filmmakers are choosing Los Angeles for these micro-dramas and what it means for your acting career. I’m grateful for the opportunity to attend the Sundance Film Festival again this year. While planning my top ten films to see and a little time on the slopes, I’m reminded of how meaningful it is to connect through storytelling and creativity. If you’re attending Sundance, I’d love to hear your plans—what films you’re excited about or any activities you have in mind. Let’s connect and support one another during this time.
I want to thank all the friends and colleagues who reached out to me this week. While my home and family were near the fires, we were fortunately never in danger. The wildfires brought heartbreaking devastation to many, and my heart goes out to those who lost their homes or were forced to evacuate. I’m doing my best to support friends who were affected and to honor the incredible firefighters who worked tirelessly to protect our communities. It’s truly humbling to witness the resilience of those impacted and the generosity of so many during such a challenging time.
